A Website Survey Makes Sense

There are many tools available to a webmaster to analyse website traffic allowing them to monitor the number of visitors, see what pages have been accessed and even the length of time each visitor spends accessing the website.

However, despite the considerable data available what is missing is anything to tell the webmaster what the visitor was thinking. Did they like or dislike the site? Was the layout clear or confusing? Was navigating the website easy and did they find the information they wanted?

A website may be generating sales but why are there some people that are visiting the website and not buying anything? Was the reason because they didn’t like what was being offered, or was it that they couldn’t find what they wanted even though it was there?

Using web based surveys webmasters have a simple and accurate method of answering these types of questions. Direct feedback from the website visitors cuts to the chase, there is no longer any need to guess, just ask the visitors directly how they arrived at the site and if they were able to find what they were looking for.

With an online survey webmasters can find out:-

  • How often do people visit the website?
  • How did they find the website?
  • Is their interest in the website for reasons of business or pleasure?
  • Was the information they were looking for found on the website?
  • How easy was it for them to navigate the website?
  • Would they be willing to recommend the website to others?

A good website survey will be short and to the point and gather good intelligence that once analysed will help improve the website.

An alternative to a traditional survey would be to embed one or two survey questions within the website after specific procedures. For example at the end of the registration process the visitor can be asked if they found the procedure quick and easy; after ordering an item they could be asked if they found the ordering procedure and payment methods to their liking. To avoid regular visitors from being asked every time they visit, the website can be configured so that they are only asked once.

Website surveys take the mystery out of working out what visitors think of a website and using Online Survey Software they are quick and easy to design and once implemented will really become the webmaster’s assistant.

Finding a premium Domain Name for your site

Do you think you have a good Domain name in mind for your site?

WAIT!
Before you rush out register it there are a several things you need to consider.

  • Are people looking for what you are offering?
  • What other words describe your site?
  • How competitive is your market?
  • Does the domain name describe your sites contents?
  • Is the URL descriptive & easy to remember?

Existing Businesses

If you have an existing business you already have brand name recognition so its important to include your business name.

i.e. www.shopname.com

If that domain is taken then consider how people will search for your site. Most people will google something like (shop name) + (city) so  why not name it www.shopnamecity.com or www.shopname-city.com these domain names will almost certainly be available.

You may find that .net .us .org domain extensions are available beware of these extensions as people type .com automatically. You may wish to purchase these domains & forward to your main site.

Online Businesses

Very Important - Do people want what your selling?

Before you rush ahead & spend hours developing a site with no value think of 6 or more words that best describe your idea.

Go to Wordtracker (Its Free) & see how many people are searching those exact words. List your keywords by search volume.

Now you now know 2 things;

  1. Is this an idea worth pursuing?
  2. What words generated the most searches.

Obviously if  very few people are searching for your main keywords then this idea is not worth pursuing as an e-commerce business. Save your money & register for a free blog at www.blogger.com if you are really dedicated to the idea.

If you find that your words have allot of searches then you can move on.

Don’t worry about competition at this stage I will cover search engine optimization in competitive markets later, it is more important that there are allot of searches.

Armed with your keywords you are now ready to find the perfect domain name for your new business.

Write down some options using the most popular keyword or a mixture of your keywords. Your domain name needs to describe your sites content.

A person searching the internet for  E-Commerce will click www.E-CommerceNewbie.com before  www.mywebsite.com

TIP - Hyphens as in E-Commerce are not generally a good idea however using Wordtracker you will find that more people search for E-Commerce than eCommerce.

Big Money Google Adsense Strategies To Make Larger Pay Checks

In the not too distant past, the Google Adsense program was the darling of the Internet Marketing World. Those new to the Internet Marketing arena jumped on board the Adsense bandwagon thinking they would make money online fast and be holding up unheard of checks like Shoemoney. Then, after a few weeks getting paid just pennies for their clicks, they then become angry and screamed to everyone who would read their rants that Adsense won’t make you money anymore.

The facts are, there are a lot of us who are bringing down damn good checks with Adsense. Making money with Adsense requires a little more than just throwing up a blog, scraping content and adding your Adsense code. In a Nutshell, Adsense is still one of the easy ways to make money online. Try these advanced tips that will help increase your check from Adsense.

For starters, take a long hard look at the site where you have your ads. Is your site targeted to one niche? I find it really humurous sometimes when so called Internet Marketer say you can’t make any money with Adsense. I usually check out their site and see that it isn’t optimized for any keyword that advertisers would be bidding on. Or, what advertisers that are bidding are bidding a nickel per hit. The lack of a focused website is one of the biggest reasons Webmasters don’t make money with Adsense.

For Google Adsense to show your visitors the highest paying ads, your site has to be very targeted to a keyword. For example, if you have articles on your site discussing everything from how green the grass is today to how sloppy your kids teacher dressed, Adsense isn’t going to give you the high paying keywords. What’s more, the ones you do get probably won’t be targeted to your audience because the Adsense bot is having a hard time trying to make a decision as to what your web site is about.

Okay listen closely. Let’s say your website is about Chicken Wings. You have no articles on your site other than those about Chicken Wings. You have articles about Hot Wings, Barbecue Chicken Wings, Wing Sauce Recipes, How to cook Chicken Wings, etc. Now if you’ve done your on-page SEO properly, the Adsense bot will know that you site is all about Chicken Wings. If an advertiser is paying $2.00 per click to advertise their Chicken Wing product, your site will get that high paying ad. And what’s more, your visitors will likely click on that high paying ad because they are on your site looking for stuff pertaining to Chicken Wings when they see an add for something to do with Chicken Wings, which in turns gives you an excellent paying click.

Another thing that makes me laugh is when a noob says he’s getting a steady stream of traffic from Stumble Upon or Digg, but he isn’t getting any clicks? It’s no secret to most of us that Social Traffic doesnt convert. Traffic from Social Sites are just browsing the Internet while they’re at work. There’s an old saying in Internet Marketing that goes like this. Readers don’t click ads and Clickers don’t read!

Search Engine traffic is what drives clicks to Adsense. If your website is niche focused and you have your site ranking well for its keywords, then when organic traffic from Google arrives, they’ll be clicking ads. They’re searching for information and they found it on your site. Your site has a bunch of Adsense ads about what they’re looking for. They want information and they want it now. They will click those ads!

Yet another strategy is to have some vague or long drawn out post. If someone is looking for a recipe on Chicken Wings with Cheese Fritters and you have an article by the same name, they’ll be reading that article. But if that article is really long and boring and says very little about Chicken Wings with Cheese Fritters, they’ll get bored and start looking around your site. That’s when they’ll see an Adsense block with an ad for a sure fire, can’t miss Chicken Wing with Cheese Fritter recipe and click on it. Solving all the problems of your readers isn’t in your best interest, not if you want Adsense clicks!

That’s it for now. I’ll let you think about what I just said. Meanwhile, go look at your site and see where you can improve it. Get it focused on one niche. Don’t try to cover many niches with your website because you’ll end up with those five cent clicks!
