Excerpt: Advergaming (a portmanteau of advertising and gaming) is the practice of using video games to advertise a product, organization or viewpoint. The term “advergames” was coined in January 2000 by Anthony Giallourakis, and later mentioned by Wired’s “Jargon Watch” column in 2001. It has been applied to various free online games commissioned by major companies. With the growth of the internet, advergames have proliferated, often becoming the most visited aspect of brand websites and becoming an integrated part of brand media planning in an increasingly fractured media environment. In employing ATL advergaming, a company typically provides interactive games on its website in the hope that potential customers will be drawn to the game and spend more time on the website, or simply become more product aware. The games themselves usually feature the company’s products prominently (often as “powerups” or upgrades). These games may consist of reworked arcade classics or origi… More:

Dear Fellow Internet Marketer,It’s no secret that the key to making money on the Internet is traffic. The more traffic you can drive, the more money you will make. It’s a simple equation. When it comes to finding that traffic though, there are many different ways to find the people you need. If you’ve been selling online for any matter of time, this doesn’t come as a surprise. You probably know that some methods can be very effective, but those methods normally can be more expensive than they are worth. If you are looking for huge sources of free traffic, most people will tell you that they are as mythical as dragons, leprechauns and the loch ness monster. But there are ways to drive tons of traffic for free. Not only that, but there are ways to drive tons of product hungry traffic who’re ready to buy immediately that won’t cost you anything more than a little bit of time and effort. The most effective ways of these free ways to drive traffic is to write and publish articles to different article hubs.Sounds odd, right? Most people would never guess that the arcane act of writing an article could produce such a profitable response in these high tech times. But it works. I can tell you first hand how well it works…I started out as an Internet marketer working by building affiliate websites. I did the normal ClickBank thing…I’d find a product that I thought would convert well, built a website around it and starting driving as much traffic as I could.Try to guess what happened…Yeah, nothing. Not one single person came to buy from me. I was disappointed but I wasn’t ready to give up, not by a long shot.I thought maybe it was the particular product I chose. So I took not just one more product, but five. I figured the more products I sold, the better source of statistics I’d find. I won’t ask you

Brands Versus Information- the Changing Role of Brands in the Age of Empowered Consumers

Brands Versus Information- the Changing Role of Brands in the Age of Empowered Consumers

$57.12

On the one hand, the Internet increases information transparency for consumers- they are now able to obtain objective, trustworthy information on retailers’existence and reliability as well as on products and services in realtime,at any time from virtually any place in the world. On the other hand, the Internet provides tools to businesses to strengthen their consumers’bonds with their brands, e.g. through offering platforms for consumers to engage in brand-related behavior for fun and entertainment during their free time or through offering businesses the opportunity to personalize offerings for their customers. For the first time, this book analyzes and describes the roles that both brands and the increased information transparency play in purchase decision processes. It gives answers to a wide range of questions: Does the Internet empower consumers in a way that strengthens or weakens functions of brands? Can information substitute brand functions? Are brands becoming even more important in the age of empowered consumers? What are the impacts of this development on brands, on intermediaries and retailers, and on prices and product quality? And what are the implications for brand management? This book is addressed to a practice oriented as well as to an academic audience. It delivers new insights and perspectives to marketing, product and brand managers, to consultants, and to all other professionals who are interested in this topic.

It has been estimated that one third of the world’s population does not have access to “adequate” health care. Some 1.6 billion people live in countries experiencing “concentrated” acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS) epidemics. Many countries in Africa—and other low-income countries—are in dire need of help providing adequate health care services to their citizens. They require more hands-on care from Western health workers—and training so more African health workers can eventually care for their own citizens. But these countries also need assistance acquiring and implementing both texts—the body of medical information potentially available to them—and technology—the means by which that information can be conveyed.;This dissertation looks at these issues and others from a multi-faceted approach. It combines a survey of the developers of Web sites designed for use by health workers in low-income countries and a proposal for a novel approach to communication theory, which could help improve health communication and other social marketing practices. It also includes an extensive review of literature regarding a number of topics related to these issues.;To improve healthcare services in low-income countries, several things should occur. Excerpt: Kiss the Stone (spelled ‘Kiss The Stone’ and abbreviated ‘KTS’ on logo and releases) was a record company specializing in live and rare releases of popular rock artists. The company was based in Italy, where the law allowed marketing these types of recordings, provided royalties are placed for the artists in an escrow account. It was run by producer Giorgio Serra and independently recorded and mastered live performances from the ’80s and ’90s. The company was largely known as a bootleg company, though in reality the organization worked in co-operation with many of the top artists and all royalties – including mechanical rights – were paid in advance through the SIAE, the copyrights agency that was, and still is, a member of international mechanical collection agencies such as ASCAP, GEMA and BMI. Most of the KTS releases were pressed in PolyGram’s plant in Milan, Italy to ensure high quality and product control. Over the years the label became one the largest suppliers of niche live recordings, marketed through many major retailers throughout Europe, Asia and Americas. For a number of years the label published a magazine pullout in Rolling Stone, Spin and AP magazines, and also marketed its releases in the early days of the Internet. The label was commonly regarded as a high quality label. The packing, photos and design of their releases were considered pioneering – being the first to release retrospective collections that included history, articles and booklets in a unique box coupled with obscure and rare recordings. Two of the label’s famous box sets, Doors – Stockholm and The Rolling Stones – The First Decade are considered masterpieces and are traded for relatively large sums of money on the collectors market. A Canadian organization, also called “Cable in the Classroom” (“La câblo-éducation” in French ), was founded in 1995, and has the same scope as the US organization.Cable stations broadcast educational programs at specific times (usually early in the morning) commercial-free and notify Cable in the Classroom as to when the shows will be on. This way, educators are able to record the programs for free and use them in school as learning tools for children.Over the years however, many networks have discontinued any effort at promoting Cable in the Classroom or setting aside programming for the organization’s purposes, ceding more to direct marketing of their educational programming to teachers and school districts via their home video departments, their Internet sites, or in the cases of networks such as ABC Family , The Disney Channel and Cartoon Network , removing their involvement altogether. Another factor has likely been the decline in VHS recorders, as DVRs with non-portable storage have become the recording format of choice over DVD recorders , the equivalent successor to VCRs.Programs The Following is a brief listing of programs used for “Cable In The Classroom” Websites (URLs online) A hyperlinked version of this chapter is at E/I , which stands for “educational

Excerpt: The Harry Potter fandom is a large international and informal community drawn together by J. K. Rowling’s Harry Potter series. The fandom works through the use of many different forms of media, including web sites, fan fiction, podcasts, fan art and songvids. Harry Potter fan fiction, stories based on the series but written by fans and distributed online, is the most searched-for subject of all fan fiction on the web, surpassing even those in the Star Trek fandom, or Trekdom. However, the fandom not only interacts online in Internet forums, but also gathers at scholarly fan conventions, tours of iconic landmarks relevant to the books and production of the films, and parties held for the midnight release of each book and film. By the fourth Harry Potter book, the legions of Harry Potter fans had grown so large that considerable security measures were taken to ensure that no book was purchased before the official release date Studies on the fandom have shown that both children and adults are fans, despite Rowling’s original marketing of the books towards children aged nine to twelve. Excerpt: Manta is a roller coaster at SeaWorld Orlando. Designed by Bolliger and Mabillard, Manta allows guests to encounter numerous species of rays before boarding a manta-shaped train that takes them on a soaring, gliding journey above the park. The attraction officially opened to the public on May 22, 2009. The concept that was to become Manta was first revealed by SeaWorld Orlando to a gathering of travel and community leaders on April 2, 2008, although it had been in the planning stages for years before. The exact specifications and details were not immediately revealed, although it was noted that this would be the largest single investment in the history of any SeaWorld park, and that it would open sometime in 2009. It was further noted that the attraction would include a roller coaster, but that it would be much more than just a roller coaster. Regarding the design of the attraction, Joseph Couceiro, vice president of sales and marketing, said: Artists’ concepts of the new attraction were leaked onto the Internet in April 2008; however, SeaWorld officials would not acknowledge if the images were accurate representations of the attraction’s final design, although they suggested that the roller coaster would have a “gliding” sensation. At the same time, searches of trademark applications uncovered an entry for the use of the term “Manta” as an amusement ride, and construction on a large site within the park had already commenced. On May 29, 2008 park officials confirmed that the attraction would indeed be named Manta, and further revealed additional details about the attraction. Construction of the roller coaster track and the attraction buildings began in September 2008, with the track completed in December 2008 and the rest continuing into e… More:

When I First Started Out Online I was SO BROKE The Only Way I Could Drive Traffic To My Sites Was By Using FREE Traffic Techniques…Turned Out That FREE Was Also BEST!!When I first got started in Internet Marketing I was so broke I had to find ways of driving quality traffic to my websites for free. Years later I STILL use the very same techniques to provide some of my very best quality traffic, which results in sale after sale, every single month!Listen – If you don’t have good targeted traffic you’re unlikely to get many sales. When I started out I put a lot of work into my sales pages, my products, customer service and delivery systems. I didn’t pay nearly enough attention to my traffic. The result was hardly any sales, and me going through the Job ads in my local paper because I wasn’t earning anywhere near enough to pay my rent let alone pay for food. It’s a good analogy actually – traffic IS food for your website. Without it, it’s just die off.You NEED sales to be an Internet Marketer – Fact. And you need traffic to get sales. But what happens if you can barely afford to pay your monthly hosting fees let alone fork out for expensive ezine ads or even webpage classifieds?Well you have two choices.Either stop trying to make it online, ORDo like I did and get to grips with the FREE traffic secrets that every broke marketer needs to know in order to stay in the game. And the best part is that some of my traffic generating methods create BETTER and MORE TARGETED traffic than some of the hugely expensive ads that many people waste money on.The truth of the matter is that FREE traffic doesn’t have to mean POOR QUALITY traffic. In fact, quite the reverse is true in terms of this book. I’ve had MORE sales from the traffic generated using my free methods than I have from Ads that I’ve paid over $200 for.

Excerpt: Go Daddy is an Internet domain registrar and web hosting company that also sells e-business related software and services. In 2010, it reached more than 40 million domain names under management. Go Daddy is currently the largest ICANN-accredited registrar in the world, and is three times the size of its closest competitor.. Known for its racy marketing, Go Daddy started advertising in the Super Bowl in 2005. Since then, the company expanded its marketing to include sports sponsorships. Go Daddy filed for an IPO in 2006, but later cancelled it, due to market uncertainties. Go Daddy maintains that it wants to protect the Internet, but some of their actions have drawn criticism. Go Daddy was founded in 1997 as Jomax Technologies by Bob Parsons, who previously founded the software development company Parsons Technology, Inc. The company changed its name to Go Daddy in 1999 when a group of employees were brainstorming on a more memorable name than Jomax Technologies. Someone said “How about Big Daddy?” A quick check revealed that it was taken. Then Parsons said “How about Go Daddy?” The name was available, so he bought it. CEO Bob Parsons states the company stuck with the name because it made people smile and remember it. Go Daddy has grown to become the largest ICANN-accredited registrar on the internet. In 2001, soon after Network Solutions was no longer the only place to register a domain, Go Daddy was approximately the same size as competitors Dotster and eNom. In April 2005 it surpassed Network Solutions in market share in terms of total domain names registered. In 2002, Go Daddy sued VeriSign for domain slamming and again in 2003 over its Site Finder service. This latter suit caused controversy over VeriSign’s role as the sole maintainer of… More:

The best product or service in the world will never be successful unless its provider knows how to attract enthusiastic customers.Chelsea Green has published numerous books that promote self-sufficiency through independent work. Eliot Coleman inspired a nation of market gardeners with his New Organic Grower. Then Lynn Byczynski refined the model of horticultural entrepreneur in The Flower Farmer, and Michael Phillips followed suit in The Apple Grower. Gene Logsdon’s The Contrary Farmer provides the tools to make cottage farming economically viable, while in The Bread Builders, Daniel Wing and Alan Scott lay the foundation for revival of the village baking tradition. We expect that Shel Horowitz’s Grassroots Marketing: Getting Noticed in a Noisy World will be welcomed by the organic farmers, solar-energy installers, telecommuters, environmental activists, community gardeners, and straw-bale-house builders of the world. Although he doesn’t presume that all of his readers will have embraced the principles of sustainable living, Horowitz’s approaches are especially well-matched to the bootstrap businesses and organizations that comprise the new sustainability economy.Horowitz’s key assumption is that the diverse entrepreneurs who need this book will have one thing in common—they won’t have much money to spend on marketing efforts. His book tells you:How to get more than your money’s worth in paid advertising; How to get free ink from the press by turning yourself into news; How to develop a multi-pronged, multi-media strategy just like the big guys (but without big bucks).Originally published as Marketing Without Megabucks (Simon & Schuster, 1993), this book has been thoroughly revised, including a major new section on the development that has been the greatest boon ever to the grassroots marketer—the Internet.

The Internet has brought media to a global audience. The interactive nature of Internet marketing in terms of providing instant response and eliciting responses, is a unique quality of the medium. Internet marketing is sometimes considered to have a broader scope because it not only refers to the Internet, e-mail, and wireless media, but it includes management of digital customer data and electronic customer relationship management (ECRM) systems. Internet marketing ties together creative and technical aspects of the Internet, including: design, development, advertising, and sales. Internet marketing also refers to the placement of media along many different stages of the customer engagement cycle through search engine marketing (SEM), search engine optimization (SEO), banner ads on specific websites, e-mail marketing, and Web 2.0 strategies. In 2008 The New York Times, working with comScore, published an initial estimate to quantify the user data collected by large Internet-based companies. Counting four types of interactions with company websites in addition to the hits from advertisements served from advertising networks, the authors found the potential for collecting data upward of 2,500 times on average per user per month. High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! Out-of-home advertising (or outdoor advertising) is made up of more than 100 different formats, totaling $6.99 billion in annual revenues in 2008 in the USA. Outdoor advertising is essentially any type of advertising that reaches the consumer while he or she is outside the home. This is in contrast with broadcast, print, and internet advertising. Out of home advertising, therefore, is focused on marketing to consumers when they are ‘on the go’ in public places, in transit, waiting (such as in a medical office), and/or in specific commercial locations (such as in a retail venue). Outdoor advertising formats fall into four main categories: billboards, street furniture, transit, and alternative.

Excerpt: Martin Neil Lewis (born 24 July 1952 in Ashtead, Surrey, England) is a US-based English humorist, writer, radio/TV host, producer and marketing strategist. He is known for his participation in a variety of projects in the arts and entertainment worlds including his work as the co-creator and co-producer of the Secret Policeman’s Ball benefit shows for Amnesty International (a series he created with Monty Python alumnus John Cleese and Amnesty fund-raising officer Peter Walker) and as a comedic performer and writer on American TV. He hosts his own daily radio show – heard nationally in America on Sirius Satellite Radio and worldwide on Sirius Internet Radio. He is a prolific columnist for The Huffington Post website. Described by L.A. Weekly as a true Renaissance Man, Lewis career has encompassed work in music, comedy, TV, radio, film, theatre, books and politics. Lewis’ official website credits the diversity in his professional life to his having been inspired by individuals he worked with early in his career who were noted polymaths (people who excel in multiple fields) – including Sir Peter Ustinov, Peter Cook and Monty Python alumni Michael Palin and Terry Jones. Lewis has worked since 1974 as a producer of comedy and music recordings, stage shows, films, music videos, TV shows, DVDs and radio programs. Arguably his most notable work has been co-creating and producing the Secret Policeman’s Ball series of benefits for Amnesty International (initially held 1976-1981) that brought together comedic talents (including Monty Python, Beyond The Fringe, Rowan Atkinson and Billy Connolly) and rock musicians (including Pete Townshend, Sting, Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, Phil Collins, Tom Robinson, Donovan and Bob Geldof.) Selling the Dream: Why Advertising Is Good Business

Selling the Dream: Why Advertising Is Good Business

$42

The process of producing goods and services is relatively easy to recognize as socially beneficial. But television ads? Telemarketers? Jingles? Junk mail? It is popular to view these commercial activities as inherently wasteful or manipulative, marginally informative or entertaining, at best. In Selling the Dream, John Hood takes the provocative stand that advertising images and sales pitches are actually part of the goods and services themselves, delivering an essential component of the consumer's experience. As such, they are inextricably linked to the basic tenets of the free-market system, and, in the boldest of terms, Hood argues that commercial communication is morally consistent with the principles of our democratic society, including freedom of choice, competition, and innovation. Tracing the history of advertising from Ancient Roman times to the present, he offers a colorful account of advertising in its cultural context and addresses such controversial issues as the promotion of harmful and immoral products (such as alcohol and tobacco), marketing to children, the role of advertising in service industries such as health care and education, and the impact of the Internet and other new media on the conduct of commerce. In the process, he offers a compelling perspective on advertising and its essential role in business, communication, and popular culture. A colorful history of advertising that makes the case for its necessity in a free-market society.

Excerpt: Everything That Happens Will Happen Today is the second album made in collaboration between David Byrne and Brian Eno, released on August 18, 2008, by Todo Mundo. The album was released with a unique marketing strategy that involved Byrne creating the vanity label Todo Mundo and hiring Internet startup company Topspin Media to promote the album online. Several formats were created to allow users to have options on how to listen to the musicfrom free streaming audio to a deluxe package housed in a tin. It received several awards for both the musical content as well as the packaging and technical production. In December 2007, David Byrne announced on the BBC Radio music show The Weekender that he was working with former collaborator Brian Eno on a brand new album of “proper songs,” describing it as a “completely different thing” from the experimental My Life in the Bush of Ghosts. While the two were discussing the 2006 remix of that album at a dinner party, Eno suggested adding lyrics and vocals to some songs that he had written and intended to finish, some of which were eight years old. Although the two had discussed making an album together for several years, this was the first sincere effort since… More:
